Utilizing three completely different plasmid DNA codings for kanamycin (KM), chloramphenicol (CP), and ampicillin- (AMP) and tetracycline- (TC) resistance, 4 completely different competent Escherichia coli strains had been reworked by the calcium chloride methodology to provide KM-, CP- and AMP- and TC-resistant strains. Analysis of minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 22 antibiotics, confirmed KM-resistant E. coli to be cross resistant solely to fradiomycin (FRM); CP-resistant E. coli, particularly HB101 and JM109 strains, exhibited cross-resistance solely to thiamphenicol (TP).
